The brown cat salt and pepper shakers were a very popular item to draw, as well as our own “pair” of twins: Phoebe & Raven Baker.
Grades K-4 students from Minerva Central School visited the MHS museum in September of 2022 and were tasked with drawing something that piqued their interest from the museum’s “Pairs” collection. The younger students drew pictures and the older students submitted an essay along with their drawings.
These “works of art” were then collected by their classroom teachers and handed over to the MHS Essay Contest Committee to be reviewed and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners were chosen. Sometimes it was so hard to choose and there were multiple place winners! As in the past, a winning student not only got a Certificate of Merit, but also won a monetary prize, depending on which place they ranked: 1st= $15., 2nd=$10. & 3rd=$5.
A celebration party was held in the Cafeteria of MCS on Nov 3rd 2022, and the following winners were announced:

After the Awards’ Ceremony, the students were treated to drinks and snacks provided by Joyce Tuffey, Heidi Kelly & Cynthia Perkins. Each student also received a special-colored neon pencil from our docent, Joyce Tuffey and a small Halloween party favor.
