Cynthia (Galusha) Perkins: A Homegrown Museum Director
On September 30th, 2021, Cynthia (Galusha) Perkins took on a new role within the Museum Committee as its Director, a position once held by her mother, Martha Galusha. For Cindy, this unexpected turn was a nod to her roots and a tribute to her mother's legacy.
The decision to become the museum director came unexpectedly to Cindy. While leafing through her mother's old photo album, she stumbled upon pictures of Martha inaugurating the museum and creating beautiful displays from 2003 to 2011. It was then that Cindy felt a calling. "I hadn’t really thought about the director position until recently," Cindy explained. "But seeing my mother's passion and dedication, it felt right to step in. She’d be proud."
Cindy, a native of Olmstedville and a graduate of MCS in 1975 is a retired French teacher who now resides in Chestertown. Her connection to Minerva's history runs deep, inspiring her to contribute articles to the MHS Quarterly. With a keen interest in genealogy, Cindy traced her Galusha lineage back to the Revolutionary War, showcasing her enduring ties to the community.
Taking charge as Museum Director, Cindy's initial task is a daunting one: taking inventory of the museum's vast collection. "It's going to be a massive job," she admitted, "but I’m ready for it. The museum, to me, is like a treasure trove waiting to be explored."
With Cindy's unassuming dedication, the museum quietly continues its journey, preserving the past and inviting locals to share in the simple yet profound sweetness of Minerva's history
